Deion Sanders’ Colorado football team receives 1 vote in first AP top 25 poll of season

(Fox News)

The Colorado Buffaloes’ 2023 season started out like a lion but ended like a lamb.

The Deion Sanders-led team started with an upset over TCU and nearly topped USC in one of their first matchups of that year. But after losing eight of their last nine games. Sanders’ 2024 campaign hasn’t exactly gotten off to the best start as he’s had confrontations with the media.

He probably shouldn’t check the first Associated Press rankings of the season either.

Even with the team returning Shedeur and Shilo Sanders and Travis Hunter, Colorado only received one vote to make the initial top 25 poll of the season.

Georgia was ranked No. 1 and five Big 12 programs were in the Top 25.

Colorado will embark on a new journey this season, debuting in the Big 12 Conference.

The Buffaloes start with North Dakota State at home on Aug. 29, which will be far from a cakewalk as the Bison were 11-4 last season and made it to the semifinals of the FCS playoffs.

The team then starts its conference schedule at home on Sept. 21 against Baylor.

Colorado was ranked No. 11 in the Big 12 Conference preseason poll, setting up the team to have a bigger chip on its shoulder than it already has.

Bird flu spreads among Colorado poultry workers…

What to know about human cases of bird flu

What to know about the human cases of bird flu case detected so far

03: 26

Three poultry workers from a farm in northeast Colorado are suspected to have contracted bird flu, state and federal health officials announced Friday.

The three tested presumptively positive for H5N1, also known as avian influenza, while working at a “commercial egg layer operation,” the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment said in a statement.

They were culling poultry at the farm when they showed mild symptoms, including pink eye and common respiratory infections, the agency said. None required hospitalization.

Specimens have been sent to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention for confirmatory testing.

The CDC said that the three worked “at a poultry facility experiencing an outbreak of the H5N1 virus that is circulating in wild birds and has been causing multistate outbreaks in dairy cows and poultry.”

There have been four confirmed human cases of bird flu in the U.S. since March, all in farmworkers, with two in Michigan, one in Texas and one in Colorado, the CDC said.

In the latter case, a Northern Colorado farm worker suffered pink eye after having direct contact with cattle that were infected with avian flu, CDPHE previously reported.

According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, there have been bird flu outbreaks confirmed in 152 cattle herds so far this year.

The CDC said the risk to the public from bird flu remains low, noting that “there are no signs of unexpected increases in flu activity otherwise in Colorado, or in other states affected by H5 bird flu outbreaks in cows and poultry.”

However, it added that “human infections with this novel influenza virus (and others) are concerning because of the potential to cause severe disease.”

Federal officials are considering if and when to deploy 4.8 million doses of bird flu vaccine. Finland announced last month it would offer shots to workers who might be exposed to the virus.

Colorado football faces uphill battle as Big 12 preseason rankings list Buffaloes outside top-10

(Fox News)

The Deion Sanders-led Colorado football team had a disappointing finish last season.

Colorado was able to attract some top recruits in 2024 as the Pro Football Hall of Famer orchestrated a massive roster overhaul. The Buffaloes’ 4-8 record in 2023 was an improvement over its 1-11 mark in the season prior to Sanders’ arrival.

However, the Buffaloes will face an uphill battle when they kick off their inaugural season in the Big 12 Conference in late August. As the calendar turns to July, the conference’s football media preseason poll was revealed.

The Big 12 Conference has expanded to 16 schools. Entering the 2024 season, media members projected the Buffaloes as the 11th best team in the conference.

Colorado’s roster does feature elite talent at some key positions. Buffaloes quarterback Shedeur Sanders received All-Big 12 honors, while star wide receiver and defensive back Travis Hunter was the preseason pick for defensive player of the year.

However, some appear to believe the Buffaloes’ deficiencies could prevent the team from racking up a significant number of wins in 2024.

Colorado could enter several games this upcoming season as an underdog. The Buffaloes will host North Dakota State to open the regular season. They will then travel to Nebraska, followed by a matchup with in-state rival Colorado State.

Lauren Boebert Soars to Victory over 5 Opponents in Colorado GOP Congressional Race

(Breitbart)

Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO) soared to victory in the Republican primary for Colorado’s 4th Congressional District on Tuesday evening.

Boebert received 42,741 votes, or 43.4 percent of the vote, while her opponent, Jerry Sonnenberg, who previously served in the Colorado Senate for the first district between January 2015 and January 2023, received 14,017 votes, or 14.2 percent of the vote, according to the Associated Press.

Deborah Flora, the founder of Parents United America, received 13,466 votes, or 13.7 percent, while Richard Holtorf received 10,742 votes or 10.9 percent of the vote.

The election was called at 9: 22 p.m.

Boebert is currently serving as a representative for Colorado’s 3rd Congressional District.

She revealed that she would be running for reelection for Rep. Ken Buck’s (R-CO) seat representing Colorado’s 4th Congressional District after he announced in March he would be resigning.

She did not run in the special election to decide who would serve out the remainder of Buck’s current term.

As Breitbart News previously reported, Boebert cast blame on the Democrats using “dark money” to try to unseat her in her current district.

Colorado’s 4th Congressional District is described as being more conservative than Boebert’s current district, according to the Denver Post:

The 4th District, which covers most of the state’s Eastern Plains, from the Wyoming border to the Oklahoma panhandle, is being vacated by Buck, who has held the mostly rural district since 2015. Several Republicans have already announced their intention to run in that district, where recently redrawn boundaries have taken in subu

Authorities search rural Colorado for suspect in shooting

(The Washington Times)

ALAMOSA, Colorado — Officers went door to door in a rural southern Colorado on Sunday as aircraft searched from overhead for a man suspected of shooting three people, killing one, and then fleeing on foot into farmland after a failed carjacking.

Suspect Henry Corral, 44, should be considered armed and dangerous, said police in the small city of Alamosa.

“It’s a huge area – probably almost 30 square miles that we’ve got to work. There’s still a lot we’ve got to do,” Alamosa Police Chief George Dingfelder said of the search. “It’s rural farmland, and and some places you might have three or four houses in a square mile.”

Officers found the three victims after responding to shots fired at The Sunset Inn in Alamosa at about 2 a.m. Sunday. The city of about 10,000 people is roughly 30 miles from the New Mexico border.

One of the victims died, and the other two were airlifted to a hospital in critical condition .

(Fox News)

A plane crashed into a mobile home park in Steamboat Springs, Colorado, on Monday afternoon, killing two people and setting two trailers on fire, authorities said.

Steamboat Springs Fire Rescue said the aircraft went down in West Acres Trailer Park.

The two people killed were the pilot and a passenger, according to Steamboat Springs police.

“The Routt County Coroner is notifying next of kin. Our hearts go out to the family and friends of the deceased,” police wrote on Facebook.

District-switching Lauren Boebert takes massive lead in Colorado primary poll

(The Washington Times)

HIGHLANDS RANCH, Colorado — Rep. Lauren Boebert’s lead-up to her 2024 reelection campaign was nothing short of disastrous, and yet the pistol-packing, theater-vaping, district-hopping Republican is still the candidate to beat.

A poll released earlier this month by Florida-based Kaplan Strategies shows 40% of voters surveyed plan to support Ms. Boebert in the June 25 primary race to represent Colorado’s 4th Congressional District. None of her five GOP rivals drew more than 5%.

Dick Wadhams, former Colorado Republican Party chairman and a GOP political consultant, said he believes the congresswoman’s actual support may be slightly below 40%, but that she’s still the clear frontrunner.

“I don’t know if it’s 40, but I do believe she’s at least in the 30s, and in that large field — there are six candidates total — it really does work to her favor with her name-ID advantage,” Mr. Wadhams said. “And she’s got a pretty big financial advantage, too. I think those two things really benefit her.”

Given that the CD4 is the most conservative in the state — 58% of the district voted for Republican Donald Trump in the 2020 presidential race versus 39% for Democrat Joe Biden — the winner of the GOP primary becomes the instant favorite to win the general election in November.

That Ms. Boebert leads the field just months after moving to the new district — and after a year of calamitous headlines centered on her personal life — speaks to the power of name recognition and fundraising in a crowded field, as well as the willingness of voters to forgive and forget.

Ms. Boebert announced in December that she would switch from the 3rd to the 4th Congressional District after eking out a meager 546-vote win in 2022 against Democrat Adam Frisch, who has raised a whopping $13 million in his bid to capture the Western Colorado seat in November.

She moved 230 miles from Rifle to Windsor to run for the seat vacated by Republican Ken Buck, who retired in March.

Trailing Ms. Boebert was skepticism over whether her cowgirl-in-heels image would translate to the CD4, which includes the rural Eastern Plains but also the prosperous suburbs of Douglas County and sections of suburban Weld and Larimer counties.

The Kaplan poll also found that 40% of Republican and unaffiliated voters are undecided, meaning that her opponents have a path to the nomination if they can distinguish themselves as her chief rival, something none of them has so far been able to do.

Also seeking the GOP nod are Logan County Commissioner Jerry Sonnenberg; former state House Minority Leader Mike Lynch; state Rep. Richard Holtorf; former talk-show host Deborah Flora; and conservative activist Peter Yu.

Mr. Sonnenberg, who served previously in the state legislature, won the coveted endorsements of former Republican Sens. Cory Gardner, Wayne Allard and Hank Brown, but Ms. Boebert snared the biggest of all, that of former President Donald Trump.

Her opponents have taken shots at her effectiveness in Congress and her district-switching in recent televised debates, as well as incidents in her personal life.

“We’ve seen how Lauren Boebert would represent us, abandoning her neighbors in CD3, missing key votes while chasing cameras, and being in the center of D.C. drama instead of delivering real solutions for the people,” said Ms. Flora, former conservative talk-show host on KNUS-AM and founder of Parents United America, at the May 29 debate on CBS4.
