PEAK: Nightmare boss with checkered past tries to elbow back into elected office

(Colorado Peak Politics)

Democrats are so desperate for candidates to run for office it looks like they’re skipping any basic qualifications for the seat and just scrapping the bottom of the barrel seizing on any muck that floats to the top.

Colorado’s bench is so weak, Auon’tai “Tay” Anderson is skipping his reelection run for a second term on the Denver school board and instead trying to pole vault his way to the District 8 state House seat being vacated by term-limited Leslie Herod.

Democrats are also trying to recycle tainted politicians like Rochelle Galindo, who formerly represented House District 50 in Greeley, to run for another state House seat.

From Page Two over at Complete Colorado:

A former state legislator who resigned in 2019 amid allegations she sexually assaulted and served alcohol and marijuana to two underage campaign workers has put her name in the mix to replace Serena Gonzales-Guiterrez at the state representative of House District 4, a northwest Denver legislative district.

Controversy has followed Galindo throughout her political career, which Page Two details at length.

She has relocated and is vying for the seat vacated by Serena Gonzales-Guiterrez, who was recently elected to the Denver City Council.

It will be interesting to see if Galindo’s friendship with Colorado’s newly elected Democrat Party Secretary Adrian Felix pays off, and the vacancy committee of precinct party leaders selects her to replace Gonzales-Guiterrez before the legislature reconvenes in January.

PAGE TWO: Caldara: Hastening the demise of the Colorado GOP

(Complete Colorado Page Two)

On Saturday, August 5, around 450 folks who make up the Colorado Republican Party’s central committee will vote on a proposal that would pave the way to closing their primary.

I think it might be a good idea. But not for the reason you might think.

As it stands not only can Colorado’s 950,000 registered Republicans vote in the primary but so can 1.7 million unaffiliated Coloradan voters if they so choose. They could also vote in the Democratic primary, just not both.

If the central committee closes their primary only about 3,000 Republicans who make it to the state assembly, via the caucus system, would be the sole decision makers on who the Republican nominees are for future state ballots. District and county assemblies would do the same for their nominees.

The shorthand on this is simple:

If the Republicans close their primary, it disenfranchises not only 1.7 million unaffiliated voters from their primary, but it also disenfranchises the 950,000 Republicans from voting in their own primary.

This effort is spearheaded by those who believe the Republican Party is too soft. They believe if only more Trumpy, more anti-abortion, hard-core Republicans were on the ballot they’d win in Colorado.

The fact is even moderate Republicans cannot win in Colorado anymore.

My biggest frustration with Republicans is their inability to face simple reality. We cannot rebuild a conservative movement in Colorado if we are unable to take an honest inventory of the political facts.

PEAK: Congress rolls back prairie chicken rules blocking energy, Biden threatens veto

(Colorado Peak Politics)

Unusual battle lines have been drawn in Washington, D.C. to reverse outdated government rules that were intended to protect species on the brink of extinction but instead are abused to thwart oil production, road construction, and grazing.

Legislation reversing endangered species protection for the lesser prairie chicken has passed both the Democrat-controlled Senate and GOP-led House and is on its way to President Biden for his signature.

Big shock, Biden is balking and threatening to veto the bipartisan measure.

It seems the swamp rats running the White House convinced the old goat that eliminating the onerous government rules that cost landowners a fortune as they struggle to stay in businesses would “create uncertainty for landowners and industries.”

Some Democrats are also mad the Republicans aren’t working harder to make summer end and bring back winter because they claim the climate is killing people.

They conveniently look past the fact it took Democrat votes to pass the similar measure in the (checks notes), Democrat-led Senate.

What progressives and Biden are really mad about is that Congress is calling the bluff of extremist Democrats who have far too long used the Endangered Species Act to exterminate businesses they find offensive, like farming, ranching, and natural resources like oil and gas.

Rules for the bird, which is not on the verge of extinction but numbers in the tens of thousands across numerous states including Colorado,

PAGE TWO: Disgraced former legislator from Greeley now has eyes on vacant Denver statehouse seat

(Complete Colorado Page Two)

DENVER — A former state legislator who resigned in 2019 amid allegations she sexually assaulted and served alcohol and marijuana to two underage campaign workers has put her name in the mix to replace Serena Gonzales-Guiterrez at the state representative of House District 4, a northwest Denver legislative district.

Rochelle Galindo

Rochelle Galindo, who formerly represented House District 50 in Greeley, has thrown her hat into the ring despite a long history of ethical and legal problems.

Gonzales-Guiterrez stepped down from the office after being elected to the Denver City Council in April.

According to a recent report in Axios, Galindo, who is one of at least three Denver Democrats who have expressed an interest in filling the vacant seat, is currently unemployed and suffered a stroke in January that limited mobility on her left side. State voting records show that Galindo moved into House District 4 in 2020.

Prior to that, Galindo lived in Greeley and was elected to House District 50 in 2018 after serving three years on the Greeley City Council. Her time in office was cut short, however, in 2019 when she abruptly stepped down on Mother’s Day that year after she was accused of sexually assaulting a young woman on her campaign team. At the time, Galindo was also the target of a recall effort by HD 50 constituents.

Complete Colorado was contacted anonymously in April of 2019 with the allegations.

PEAK: Colorado’s physician congresswoman votes against $156 billion for veteran health care

(Colorado Peak Politics)

Dr. Yadira Caraveo, the congresswoman representing Colorado’s new 8th District, voted against the Veterans Affairs funding bill in the House that included nearly $156 billion to fund VA health care.

Why did the Democrat physician vote against veterans’ health care?

She hasn’t bothered to explain herself in any media reports on the bill’s passage last week, nor did she issue a statement on social media.

We couldn’t find any Colorado reports on the funding vote, but Caraveo’s Republican challenger noticed.

Last week, @YadiraCaraveo VOTED AGAINST a bill to fund health care for our veterans. Know this, when I’m elected to Congress, I’ll make sure we’re taking care of the men and women who were willing to give it all up for our country. #CO08

— Scott K. James (@scottkjames) July 31, 2023

The veterans vote comes on the heels of news that Coloradans’ tax dollars in the amount of $73 million have been used to pay the health insurance of more than 10,000 people who immigrated to this country illegally.

The coverage is illegal under Obamacare, but never you mind. Polis administration officials insist the insurance protects against huge emergency room bills, which now will be paid for by (checks notes) Colorado taxpayers.

No wonder Gov Jared Polis(D) is trying to scam Coloradans out of their TABOR tax refunds.
Apparently he needs the tax money to give it to illegal immigrants and criminals.

Oregon Ducks head football coach Dan Lanning isn’t too concerned with Colorado leaving the Pac-12 for the Big 12.

“Not a big reaction,” Lanning told reporters Monday. “I’m trying to remember what they won to affect this conference. I don’t remember…Do you remember them winning anything?”

Lanning isn’t wrong about Colorado’s history in the Pac-12.

The program joined the conference from the Big 12 ahead of the 2011 season and has gone 48-94 since then. It has only two winning seasons over that span, and one of those came in the shortened 2020 campaign, when it was 4-2 in six games.

Granted, things might look different in the future now that head coach Deion Sanders is in charge.

The upcoming campaign will be Sanders’ first at the helm, so Lanning’s criticism applies to the Buffaloes prior to his arrival. Yet the coach has quickly made waves with his approach to the transfer portal and with the school now returning to the Big 12 in 2024.

The future of the Pac-12 is now a question mark with USC and

PEAK: Douglas County GOP hosts event on the evils of Prop HH

(Colorado Peak Politics)

The Douglas County Republican Party will host an important event this week to educate taxpayers about to get robbed by greedy state lawmakers and their Democrat Overlord, Jared Polis.

The event will inform Coloradans on the impacts to their wallets if they vote in favor of Polis’s Proposition HH on the November ballot.

Spoiler Alert: The measure is disguised as a tax cut, but actually raises taxes on most every working Coloradan whether or not they own property.

It’s a ghastly proposition, and this event is appointment viewing for those who are exhausted by years of Bidenomics and the Bidenflation it’s created that is causing our tax bills to jump sky-high.

The panel discussion titled “Implications for Property Taxes, TABOR, and Beyond” is scheduled for Wednesday, Aug. 2 beginning at 6:30 p.m. at the Parker Library.

Panelists include Ben Murrey of the Independence Institute, Kristi Burton Brown, former GOP state party chair, and Toby Damish, Douglas County Assessor, with moderator Kim Monson and introductory remarks by Douglas County Treasurer Dave Gill.

The discussion will include Proposition HH’s real effect on property taxes you probably won’t read about in Colorado’s establishment media, how payroll taxes will increase through the eventual demise of the Taxpayer’s Bill of Rights (TABOR), mill rates and assessed values affected by Bidenflation.

Good on Douglas County Republicans for sponsoring this event. We hope to see local GOPs holding similar events statewide to inform voters about the real intent of Proposition HH.

PEAK: Newly released school board video reveals conniving, manipulative politicians

(Colorado Peak Politics)

Just when it looked like the Denver school board’s image had hit rock bottom, the newly released video of their closed-door meeting on the heels of the March shooting shows just how conniving, manipulate and self-serving they truly are.

And that’s according to the wildly progressive Denver Post, which says the teachers’ union-endorsed board was centered on saving their own personal image during the wave of intense public criticism than protecting children.

And the Denver Public School board members, Superintendent Alex Marrero and legal counsel Aaron Thompson, certainly were not shown in their best lights. The meeting makes everyone involved look conniving and political. During a crisis – especially a school shooting that left two employees seriously injured and resulted in a student’s suicide – we’d expect these school leaders to rise to the occasion. Instead, these men and women convened in secret to plot how best to quell the growing public backlash.

After listening to this meeting, we now understand the “Resign DPS” signs that have been popping up in yards across the city and in hashtags on social media. This is not a board serving the public or even taking school safety seriously. The members engaged in an egregious abdication of their responsibilities as elected officials.

The criticism comes as board member Charmaine Lindsay announced she will run for reelection to the seat serving northwest Denver, reports Chalkbeat Denver.

Lindsay was appointed to the board a year ago to fill a vacancy with the support of fellow board buddies Auon’tai “Tay” Anderson,

PAGE TWO: Armstrong: Silas Soule’s role in exposing the Sand Creek Massacre

(Complete Colorado Page Two)

Brace yourself to read, if you are able, edited portions of Captain Silas Soule’s eye-witness account of the Sand Creek Massacre, which took place on November 29, 1864, as related by letter to Major Edward Wynkoop. Warning: The language is graphic and extremely disturbing.

“[John Chivington and members of his Third Colorado Cavalry] declared their intention to massacre the friendly Indians camped on Sand Creek. As soon as I knew of their movement I was indignant and told them that any man who would take part in the murders, knowing the circumstances as we did, was a low lived cowardly son of a bitch.

“Chiv and all hands swore they would hang me before they moved camp, but I stuck it out, and all the officers at the Post, except Anthony backed me. I told him I would not take part in their intended murder. We arrived at Black Kettles and Left Hand’s Camp at daylight. [Some] were ordered to in advance to cut off their herd. He made a circle to the rear and formed a line 200 yards from the village, and opened fire.

“Anthony then rushed up with [others] to within one hundred yards and commenced firing. I refused to fire and swore that none but a coward would. For by this time hundreds of women and children were coming toward us and getting on their knees for mercy. Anthony shouted, ‘kill the sons of bitches.’

“I heard an officer say that any one who sympathized with the Indians,
