PAGE TWO: Rosen: A Trump reckoning for Republicans

(Complete Colorado Page Two)

The midterm election was a big disappointment for Republicans and a great misfortune for the nation.  While the anticipated red wave didn’t materialize, it was at least a partial win for the GOP, gaining a House majority that will prevent Democrats from fully transforming the country into a socialist sinkhole.  Plus, we’ll be rid of Nancy Pelosi as Speaker of the House, the wicked witch of the west coast.

Americans told pollsters their greatest concerns were inflation, energy prices, the economy, crime and illegal immigration, and blamed Democrats for that.  Republicans focused on those issues.  Democrats misrepresented their policy failures, wildly claimed Republicans would destroy democracy — when, ironically, an election is all about democracy at work — and dwelled on abortion and climate change, supposedly of far lesser concern to most Americans.  But the Dems escaped with Senate control, anyway.  Go figure.

Most so-called independents reliably vote for a particular major party and more of them favor Democrats.  The younger ones have been effectively indoctrinated by the left in K-12, college, the liberal news media, TV, Hollywood and social media, and they lap up the progressive snake oil.  Hopefully, they’ll grow older and wiser someday.  An actual red wave would have required truly independent swing voters to elect Republicans. Apparently, there aren’t enough of those.

As obvious as a black widow spider on an angel food cake, the biggest loser in this election was Donald Trump.  But what can be done with him?

PAGE TWO: Benigno: Making the case for curriculum transparency

(Complete Colorado Page Two)

Colorado’s new social studies standards demonstrate why parents need to do their own homework and study what their children are taught in school.

The Colorado State Board of Education has adopted newly revised social studies standards that include history, civics, geography, economics and financial literacy after a year-long process that elicited strong opinions from state board members and the public. The social studies review committee presented the proposed standards to the board last November after spending months incorporating directives from the legislature adopted in five bills.

For decades, as it should, Colorado law has required students to learn about the history, culture and contributions of African Americans, Hispanic Americans and American Indians. In 2019, House Bill 19-1192 was passed adding Asian Americans and religious minorities to the required studies, as well as individuals from the LGBTQ community. The new social studies standards introduce children starting in preschool to sexual orientation and gender identity.

Our public school system has been a battleground for social transformation for more than a hundred years. If parents read the Colorado Social Studies Academic Standards, the embedded politically progressive bent will be obvious.

Where Did Social Studies Go Wrong?” is a compilation of essays published by the Fordham Foundation. Chester E. Finn Jr. wrote in the book’s forward that those who took over the field of social studies possessed no respect for Western civilization and saw America as a problem for humanity rather than mankind’s best hope.

MLB Rumors: Dodgers Free-Agent Cody Bellinger Interests Rockies on 1-Year Contract

(Bleacher Report)

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA - OCTOBER 11: Cody Bellinger #35 of the Los Angeles Dodgers reaches first base on a fielding error by the San Diego Padres during the third inning in game one of the National League Division Series at Dodger Stadium on October 11, 2022 in Los Angeles, California. Coming off four consecutive losing seasons, the Colorado Rockies are trying to find answers for a quick turnaround in 2023.

Per Patrick Saunders of the Denver Post, the Rockies are interested in former National League MVP Cody Bellinger on a one-year deal.

Scott Boras, Bellinger’s agent, told The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal earlier this week that his client has already received multiyear offers, but “most likely, because of his age,” they will seek a one-year deal to help him rebuild his value and hit the market again after the 2023 season.

Bellinger became a free agent on Nov. 18 when the Los Angeles Dodgers declined to tender him a contract. The move came after a three-season stretch from 2020-22 in which he .203/.272/.376 in 295 games.

Prior to the 2020 season, Bellinger looked like he was going to be one of the best players in Major League Baseball and a foundation piece for the Dodgers for years to come. He was named NL Rookie of the Year in 2017 after hitting .267/.352/.581 with 39 homers in 132 games.

The 2019 season was the apex of Bellinger’s career. He was named NL MVP after posting a .305/.406/.629 slash line and 47 homers in 156 games.

Bellinger is one of the most intriguing free-agent options because of his upside. He’s only 27 years old and has played through injuries recently. He had offseason shoulder surgery before the 2021 campaign, suffered a hairline fracture in his leg early in the regular season and had a hamstring issue.

All of those problems combined to limit Bellinger to 95 games in 2021. He played 144 games last season but was bothered by a left adductor strain in the first half.

The Rockies have been caught between tr

PEAK: How to survive Thanksgiving in Colorado with those progressives you call family

(Colorado Peak Politics)

There’s nothing more useless during the holiday season than social media advice memes urging progressive and conservative family members to have a peaceful Thanksgiving dinner.

Especially when conservatives are still pissed about the elections and progressives are even more pissed that conservatives are allowed to roam free in Colorado and speak their mind.

Republicans had best be on top of their game today.

We recommend you come prepared to family dinner with a tasty desert from Costco, and plenty of alibis to prove your whereabouts on certain dates.

You’ll need a doctor’s excuse for an open-heart surgery or something as equally serious for June 24 when the Supreme Court overturned Roe V. Wade, because you will be blamed.

But don’t let the group thinkers at your Thanksgiving table get the best of you.

Take the high road and tell them about that new electric vehicle you’ve got on backorder with Tesla, and how happy you are now that you’ve saved the climate.

Insist on leading the prayer before eating, and ask God to watch over Biden and his boy Hunter as the Republicans prepare to take over the House and launch investigations into their finances and links to the Chinese communists.

When talk turns to The Election, set boundaries and demand the dining room be your safe space. Call your therapist from the table and pass the phone around.

Enlist the help of a sibling to find a sore spot of an annoying family member and just keep picking at it until they throw something,

PAGE TWO: Unwinding Colorado’s antiquated liquor laws proves surprisingly difficult

(Complete Colorado Page Two)

The November election results contained many surprises, including the failure of the much-ballyhooed “red wave.” Another surprising result was the unexpected difficulty that alcohol-related ballot initiatives ran into in Colorado.

Coloradans had three different alcohol ballot initiatives to choose from on their ballots this year. The topics covered ran the gamut from increasing the number of liquor stores a single owner could operate, to allowing wine to be sold in grocery stores, to authorizing third-party on-demand services to deliver alcohol in the state. Although polls on these issues had not been previously conducted in Colorado specifically, such reforms enjoy widespread popularity among voters nationwide.

None of the results have been officially certified yet, but with more than 95 percent of votes reported, only one of the three initiatives seems to have passed—the wine-in-grocery-stores initiative—and only by slightly more than a percentage point. Expanding liquor licenses went down 62 percent to 38 percent, while third-party alcohol delivery and making to-go drinks permanent suffered a closer defeat with just over 51 percent opposed.

Given Colorado’s relatively open attitude toward cannabis—consumers can order it directly to their homes via third-party delivery services—the resistance these reforms faced raised eyebrows. In an ironic twist, state voters even approved decriminalizing psychedelic mushrooms in a separate ballot measure this year.

Furthermore, all three initiatives had substantial financial backing. All told, the campaigns supporting these initiatives raised $13 million each,

MHEN: WATCH: Trans Woman on CNN Says That Colorado Shooter Can’t Be Non-Binary, He’s ‘a Man’

(Mile High Evening News)

My colleague Jeff Charles wrote about the CNN panel helmed by Alisyn Camerota during which Camerota seemed to refuse delivery on the news that Anderson Aldrich was “non-binary,” according to his attorney. “I don’t know what to say about that,” Camerota said, misgendering Aldrich repeatedly. Then her guest, Errol Louis, posited that it was somehow a “defense against a hate crimes charge,” again misgendering Aldrich.

First, that would be a stupid defense since it would be no defense. Plus you’re already talking about several murders, so even if you thought this would somehow negate a hate crime — and it wouldn’t if the facts were there — it doesn’t make a lot of sense.

But CNN didn’t stop there. They continued along the same path with Camerota’s discussion with another guest, Natalee Bingham, a transgender woman, who was a friend of one of the victims in the Colorado shooting. Bingham said that the claim about Aldrich being “non-binary” was “ludicrous.”

Aldrich was just “saying that,” Bingham declared, saying that there was no way that Aldrich was non-binary, that you could tell by looking at Aldrich’s “mugshot” that “that’s a man, that’s not a non-binary person.” Bingham claimed it was “offensive” that “they” were “playing that role.”

How do you know whether the person is non-binary or not? What does a “non-binary” person look like? And that’s the problem here with the claim. When you start moving into areas that aren’t based on biology, but on declared identity, how do you know? What makes a non-binary person non-binary? So I guess now, according to CNN, self-identifying as something just goes out the window and we’re back to what someone looks like. But if that had been someone on the right saying that, they would already have been skewered for their offense by the media.

Bingham asked why Aldrich would go after a club where he would feel safe if he were non-binary. But that’s the thing, when you don’t know what the facts are, you shouldn’t be making assumptions. Bingham doesn’t know why Aldrich allegedly shot up the club.

Here’s a radical thought: How about just waiting until the facts and the motivations are in before spouting off? But it looks like CNN is so hot to push a narrative that they can’t wait. They just want to shoot down the “non-binary” claim. Even if it denies what they have pushed for some time now about people being able to self-identify as they wish.

What happened to “there’s no right way to look non-binary”?!

This new religion CLEARLY states it’s bigoted to judge someone’s gender identity by to their physical appearance — yet this violent rhetoric appears on @CNN?

Colorado Gay Nightclub Mass Shooting Suspect Appears Bruised in Court

(The Epoch Times)

The suspect accused of shooting five people at a gay nightclub in Colorado has appeared in court this week, displaying multiple bruises to his face.

Anderson Lee Aldrich, 22, faces five counts of first-degree murder and five charges of committing a bias-motivated crime causing bodily injury after he opened fire on dozens of people at the Club Q nightclub, leaving 17 others with gunshot wounds.

In a statement on Monday, the Colorado Springs Police Department had said that a photograph of Aldrich was not available because he remained in custody at a local hospital as he was also injured in the shooting.

On Wednesday, officials released a mugshot of the suspect just a few hours after he appeared before 4th Judicial District Court Judge Charlotte Anken via a virtual appearance from his jail in El Paso County.

The pictures show Aldrich wearing a bright yellow vest as he looks first into the camera and then to the side. The suspect’s face and neck can be seen covered in what appears to be bright purple and black bruises, while his left eye looks swollen.

The thick purple bruise appears to run down past the suspect’s ear and onto his neck.

A screenshot taken from his court appearance shows Aldrich slumped over in a wheelchair and looking dazed.

Police Praise Hero Bystanders

It is unclear how the suspect sustained the injuries to his face and neck; however, police on Monday revealed that he had been taken down by two heroic bystanders during the shooting at the Club Q nightclub.

In a statement, officials named the two individuals as Thomas James and Richard Fierro, a decorated Army veteran.

“Their exact actions are part of the investigation, so we can’t discuss the specifics out of respect for the judicial process, but with their permission, we want to acknowledge their heroic actions,” police said.

Fierro told The New York Times that he had been at the club with his wife, daughter, and friends on Saturday when gunfire broke out, prompting him to draw on his military experience and attempt to tackle the gunman to the ground. The 45-year-old, who served as an Army officer in Iraq and Afghanistan, said he then beat the suspect using his own gun before another club patron stepped in and helped.

“I don’t know exactly what I did, I just went into combat mode,” Fierro said. “I just know I have to kill this guy before he kills us. I grabbed the gun out of his hand and just started hitting him in the head, over and ov

PEAK: 9Newsman: White men can’t jump into Denver mayoral race

(Colorado Peak Politics)

9News reporter Marshall Zelinger has an interesting view on when white guys should or should not run for the office of Denver mayor.

If no women of color or person of diversity steps up to the plate, he thinks the field should be theirs for the taking.

But if a white guy throws his hat in the ring afterwards, Zelinger believes the white man is effectively saying the other candidates are not worthy to run.

It’s a very odd view of the American political system.

Zelinger explained this thinking in an excruciatingly wonky zoom video of political reporters rehashing the 2022 election year with The Colorado Sun’s Jesse Paul.

“It’s a little uncomfy, actually,” Zelinger begins.

It’s not clear whether he’s uncomfortable with his racist angle, or that he’s uncomfortable with white guys running for Denver mayor.

Denver is 55% white, 29% Hispanic, and nearly 10% Black, so it’s not unusual a white … oh wait, 80% of Denver voted for Democrat U.S. Sen. Mike Bennet.

That’s why it’s uncomfortable, because they’re Democrats.

Watch the video here starting at about the 38-minute mark.

Zelinger says:

“It’s a little uncomfy actually, this week with Chris Hanson and Mike Johnston getting into the race, having to explain, you’ve got female and diverse candidates already in the race.

“Why do you think your voice is needed,
